University of Wales in the UK, which was founded by Royal Charter in 1893, is a large and distinctive federal University currently comprising 10 Member Institutions with more than 100 schools and departments, whose activities it exists to support and which are closely involved in its governance. These institutions are: University of Wales, Aberystwyth; University of Wales, Bangor; Swansea University; University of Wales, Lampeter; University of Wales Institute, Cardiff; University of Wales, Newport; North East Wales Institute of Higher Education; Swansea Institute of Higher Education; Trinity College, Carmarthen; Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. While the majority of the University’s students study in Wales, the University’s very successful and highly regarded international validation operation is also an important dimension of its work. This enables overseas institutions to offer the University of Wales degree at an equivalent standard to the degree offered in Wales itself. Validation is important in fostering links between Wales and other countries and many of the University’s graduates are now in positions of influence overseas. Last year, more than 12,000 students were registered on validated courses of the University of Wales and more than 3，000 graduated with the University’s degree. Altogether, more than 31,000 students have been awarded degrees since the validation operation began in 1975.

A special event is held annually in Cardiff by the University of Wales as an opportunity for students from outside Wales to celebrate together. At a colorful ceremony, which includes a procession of offices and academics, preceded by the University’s ceremonial mace and accompanied by a trumpet fanfare, the graduates receive the congratulations of the Secretary General of the University, the Warden of the Guild of Graduates and the Senior Vice-Chancellor. eduworld.com.cn

Candidates must complete and pass the taught modules (Part One) in order to proceed to Dissertation (Part Two). Students will be required to undertake a dissertation during the final part of the course. It would not normally exceed 20,000 words and it will have the weighting of 60 credits. To fulfil the objective of providing a broadening and integrative investigation of management, dissertations should provide opportunity for evaluation theory in a practical context with allowance of links between theoretical ideas and practice to be developed. The dissertations will normally be based upon an in-depth investigation into managerial problems normally within the student’s own organizations.
